My Make-Over

Hey every1!! How are you all? I really missed blogging.. Was super busy with assignments and what not.. Trying to cope up with this schedule is pretty difficult for me, but I guess I will make upto it!! :)
So on last sunday, that was 21st September, I got an opportunity to do a styling assignment with a super energetic partner in NIFT. It was super exciting, though we were bit nervous as it was our first styling assignment..
So today I am going to write and show you what my friend cum partner i.e, Shreya Ganesh, experimented on me as a make-over assignment..
As I am too over conscious with my weight issues, so I hardly experiment with long and flowy dresses. But this girl made me wear a long flowy dress, and I guess it dint turn out that bad!! :P
The gown is from the streets of U.S, and is a perfect blend of stripes. The broad net straps just add the beauty & grace to it..
To keep it simple and elegant, she combined small silver earings with a black flower neck chain bought from Singapore and a sexy black ring picked from the streets of bandra. The messed up hair look just added a classy element to the style.

To keep it chick, we added a black sling bag bought from my aunt's store in Mumbai.

And the classy black heels just completed my look.

The make-up done was vey minimal, focussing on my eyes & lips.

My hairstyle!!
At the end, I was amazed with the compliments I got for my make-over look. The credit goes to Shreya Ganesh for having the patience to experiment with me..<3
I hope you like my classy n chic look which can be worn for a party with friends, for a date or for any good occassion.. ;)
Do comment and let me know what you feel about this new look of mine & watch out this space to know what was my styling experiment with shreya!! ;)

LFW - ' PINNACLE ' By Shruti Sancheti

Hey every1!! I am back.. After a really long time..
College, work, assignments, and my poor health was actually keeping me away from blogging from so long..
But as a NIFT'ian, I got a great opportunity to attend Lakme Fashion Week's Winter / Festive 2014 for the first time and I thought of sharing my experience. It was indeed a memorable day!! :);)

It was Nagpur based Designer, Shruti Sancheti's show. Frankly speaking, I did not know much about her before the show. But out of curiosity, I did manage to do a bit of research.
A senior design faculty from last 8 years, Shruti Sancheti started her own fashion label ' PINNACLE by Shruti Sancheti ' in December, 2009. Her label is famous for using indian textiles as she strongly believes in promoting indian sensibilities.

It was indeed an awesome show, with the main element of crafting the clothes for cosmopolitan polished ladies. Shruti Sancheti has always highlighted her brand's vision of supporting the weaving community and this time too, she tactfully experimented with silk woven in banaras, embellished with Zardozi.

I found the lotus motiff on the brooches very fascinating and after a detailed reaserch, found out that her Granfather-In -Law Madan Lal Sancheti was the founder of 'Jan Sangh', which later became BJP with lotus as its symbol. After getting to know this, I was really impressed and pictured her as a lady who stands by her beliefs.

She was really celebrating India's textile tradition as models showcased sharara jumpsuits, choga jackets, etc.

According to me, the most attention seeking dress which caught my eyes was a sari with a long - sleeve trench and a gold sheath with side cut-outs.

It was indeed a pleasure watching her tribute to the Indian Textiles and I hope to walk soon on her path!! :)

You can check her complete collection video in the link provided.. :)

Fashion Tips For Rainy Season

We all have got use to the scortching heat these past months, so the unexpected drench may be excedingly refreshing, but may also have some damaging results to your shoes, outfits and hair.
Here are a few things to help you on those days when mother nature can't seem to make up her mind, and then gives you notice. You might already be out of the house, and it starts raining. That's why it is necessary that you are prepared all the time.
Here's how to look stylish and still be able to deal with the rain.

  • Wear breathable fabric. ( Keep it light )                                        Chiffon, light cotton, etc. do not get extremely heavy when soaked with rain / water, and they get dried on time too.
  • Go with hair braids!!                                                                         We all want to look like film stars, but lets face the fact that all hairstyles are not suitable for rainy season. Go with braids, weaving, etc as they are able to stay the same even after coming in contact with water. All you need is a blowdry, and you are perfectly ready.
  • Jellies are the way to go !!                                                             Jelly shoes come in very stylish forms as they are not restricted to sandals anymore. You can get them in flats & even wedges. The good part is that you can have them in your bag & when you sense the rain, you can switch footwears. And the cherry on the cake is that they come in vibrant colours.
  • Stay away from long dresses and skirts !!                                     This is not the season to rock your maxis, because you might end up with a mud - laden attire. This is the time to flaunt your legs with shorts, skirts & ankle length pants.
  • This is surely not the best time to wear your favourite whites !!
  • Have a cute umbrella in your handbag !!                                      They are lightweight & affordable and can easily fit in your handbags. And the most important thing, they are such a saviour.
  • Scarf it up !!                                                                                   Scarves are not just stylish, but they can also help you with the cold. Drive away the blues of this weather with some loud coloured scarves.
  • Go for patent leather bags !!                                                         Leather bags can't retain water, so the stuff in your bag remains safe.
If you prefer indian, keep away from salwars & patialas ; instead, pair short kurtis with dark leggings or chudidaars. Substitute your long dupattas with soft cotton scarves, as they are easy to manage and more likely to keep you warm. Stay away from bandhani or rajasthani prints as they tend to run colour when wet.
So there you are, ready to take on the rain !!

The new Size 0

As a curvy girl, it's fairly obvious that the fashion world tends to under - represent us. But not being the often photoshopped and advertised shape doesn't make us any less capable of being fashion - forward & fabulous.
Whenever i watch television shows or movie involving plus size women, its always the same old stereotype : She is sad, with low self - esteem, poorly dressed, has no style & spends her nights at home alone fantasizing about being skinny. Why do I care? Well, lets be real. For better or for worse, the media plays a big role in what we like, what we wear, and with whom we associate ourselves.
By curvy i mean, women who are not exceptionally thin or are just above the average size. We cannot determine "Curvy" by mentioning a particular size. Curvy women come in various sizes & shapes.
Some celebrities who fall under the " Curvy Category " are :
Sonakshi Sinha, Vidya Balan, Mariah Carey, Beyonce, etc.

Today, curvy women are praised for being real & beautiful. A few years or maybe a few months back, the 'size zero' figure was considered to determine the meaning of " Beauty ". But now, there are a number of great curvy women who are models. Plus size modelling is a huge rage internationally and this concept is still on its way to India.
I can keep talking about " Inner Beauty ", but lets be practical. Most of us judge the book by its cover. So its extremely important to look presentable irrespective of the size.
What makes a curvy women different ?
Curvy women have curves. There are some parts of the body that might be slightly bigger than the rest.
How to solve this issue ?
It's all about loving what you have. Cover your flaws & flaunt your best assests. Nobody is perfect, but you gotta show your better side.

TIPS FOR CURVY WOMEN
  • Layering doesnt make you look big, but it does help to cover your flaws.
  • If you love showing off your legs, but don't have those 'killer legs', try wearing mid length dresses that hits just under your knees and is perfect for curvy women.
  • Love those shorts, but are not confident enough to wear them? Try pairing opaque stockings with them. If your shorts are on the tighter side, pair them up with an oversized shirt and vice-versa.
  • As opposites attract, you can wear an oversized shirt with skinny jeans or loose trousers with a fitted shirt.
  • Your cherry on the cake would definately be heels. It makes you look taller and your legs will automatically look longer. Invest in wedges, as they are extremely comfortable.
  • Always remember, if your entire outfit is of one colour, it will make you look taller and slimmer.
  • Try wearing ' High Waist' to hide your little tummy.
  • Combine your outfits with long necklace as it will lengthen your body.
  • You look thin in black doesn't mean that you have to only stick to it. Experiment with burgundy, deep blues, etc.
  • If you feel your bottoms are wide, try a brighter shirt and darker bottoms, as it automatically takes the eyes off the bottoms and emphasises the top.
  • Try to go for 'V' shaped necklines, as it elongates the length of your body.
  • Experiment alot with belts as they can add shape to your dresses. Thinner belts works very well on curvy women.
  • Want to try a pencil skirt, but are not sure because of your tummy sticking out a bit? Try shapewears. There are a number of lingerie stores that have shapewears to wear under skirts, dresses, etc.
  • Remember to always invest in good quality innerwear. If the foundation is perfect, then you do not have to worry about the rest.
  • If you have broad hands / shoulders, try wearing full or 3/4th sleeves.
  • Try out the latest trends keeping in mind what works best for your body and style. Play around with your style and trends.
Remember, no matter what size you are, it's always important to look your best. People will always judge, but what matters the most is Whether You Care!!

So be confident enough to flaunt your curves !!
